Other_Information:

My family has very deep roots in Franklin County, Kentucky that goes back hundreds of years. My great-great grandparents George L. Lynn (born 1858) and Frances Ellen Lynn (born 1862) homesteaded a piece of land on Lucas Lane in Frankfort and it was the \"Lynn family farm\". The land was intended to be passed down to future generations.

The ten acre farm has a little family cemetery over 120+ years old. Here a dozen relatives peaceful rest in what was intended as their final resting place.

My mother Ellen (born 1954) as a young girl was told by her grandmother Beulah Lynn (born 1894) that her family would be buried there one day too. She fondly recalls visiting the farm. My name in Nicole (born 1973) and I am Ellen\'s only daughter. We are the forgotten branch of the tree.

The last relative that the land was passed down to never bothered to upkeep the land or cemetery and it is terribly overgrown. The owner had no regard for our family heritage and sold the land to a non-relative with the agreement he would \"relocate\" the cemetery. He told the new property owner he has \"no ties\" to the cemetery although his great-great grandparents are buried there.

Not only did he decide to move the cemetery..he was also awarded the deed to the land by claiming his great -grandmother was the \"only\" child of George and Frances. This is simply not true. Anyone with access to a free Ancestry or Find A Grave website account can find this information within minutes.

There are still living family members. We are direct descendants too. There are five , maybe more of us that were never notified about the state of the cemetery or the sale of the family farm. We were never given an opportunity to maintain or purchase the land.

We are devastated! We want the land back to preserve our heritage. The blood, sweat and tears that my family blessed onto that land over the generations is our precious history that Kentucky needs to preserve.

The new owner of the land contacted me through the Find A Grave website and said  she had bought the land and is going to move the cemetery and was just \"letting me know.\" She made several flippant comments about moving the cemetery; \"It\'s not like we\'re going into Tut\'s Tomb\", \"It\'s not like we\'re going to find jewels or treasure\", \"They were simple people that had very little\"\' \"I expect nothing but a dark thin layer of soil.\"

The new owner wants to dig up my family cemetery so a brand new house can be built on that property. Claims that the house has to be on that exact location.

You can imagine our outrage at this situation. We have every right to that land as the last owner did and he is destroying our history. Sold it off without a second thought. It is heartbreaking and disrespectful to our ancestors and we can\'t let this happen!

Our goal is to have the property back in the hands of family that will honor our heritage. We intend to maintain and improve the cemetery. We will ensure the graves would never be moved. The land would go into a trust so it would stay in the family.

We would be able to provide access for our family and future generations of Frankfort residents to visit the cemetery. This is a real piece of Kentucky history and it would be a shame to see it lost forever due to greed and selfish intentions.

We need YOUR help! We are seeking anyone that can help direct us, offer guidance, or any legal help. We need anyone that has experience with this type of situation to share knowledge with us. We beg you. We only have one chance to save our ancestors and time is of the essence.

HELP SAVE THE LYNN CEMETERY !

There are approximately 9000 bodies buried there. Some with no grave markers the vast majority with identical iron, nameless, numbered markers. There is a lot of history tied to this cemetery. The Cemetery has been neglected and consumed by the Forest. A grass root volunteer effort to try and restore it is underway.

Other_Information: The cemetery in the 1960\'s was overgrown and in disarray. The Town moved all the stones and layed them flat to make mowing easier. So,the stones don\'t actually mark graves anymore and with the stones laid flat they are sinking into the ground and in danger of disappearing(which I believe the Town wants)due to grass covering them. I offered to volunteer my time and at my expense to bring in Gravestone Guardians of Ohio to fix up this small cemetery...but to no avail. There is a Revolutionary War Veteran buried here to add to the shame of how the Town has handled this situation.
